Professional restructuring solution for brow lamination and lash lift treatments.

Thuya Permanent Gel is Step 1 of the Thuya Professional lamination system. Its alkaline formulation prepares the hair for chemical restructuring, allowing the natural shape of the brow or lash hair to be temporarily modified before it is stabilized during Step 2.

How Does Permanent Gel Work?

Thuya Permanent Gel contains Ammonium Thioglycolate, a reducing agent commonly used in professional restructuring treatments.

The alkaline environment helps the hair swell and facilitates penetration through the cuticle. Ammonium Thioglycolate can then act within the cortex, where it reduces disulfide bonds — strong chemical bonds that contribute significantly to the hair’s natural shape and structural stability.

As these bonds are reduced, the hair becomes temporarily more flexible and can be repositioned into the desired direction and shape.

This is why Step 1 does not permanently establish the new shape on its own. The restructuring process must be followed by Step 2 — Neutralizer Cream, which oxidizes and helps reform disulfide bonds, stabilizing the hair in its newly arranged position.

Why Does Permanent Gel Have a Distinctive Smell?

A characteristic sulfur-like odor may be noticeable during processing. This is associated with the chemistry of thioglycolate-based reducing systems and sulfur-containing compounds involved in the restructuring process.

The characteristic scent should not automatically be interpreted as a sign that the product has deteriorated.

According to the product information, the formulation does not rely on added fragrance to mask its characteristic chemical odor.

Ingredients

Aqua (Water), Ammonium Thioglycolate, Ammonium Bicarbonate, Ammonium Acryloyldimethyltaurate / VP Copolymer, Dipropylene Glycol, Hydrolyzed Collagen, Ammonia, Ethanolamine, Disodium EDTA, Boswellia Serrata Gum, Sodium Hydrosulfite, Phenoxyethanol, Sodium Hydroxide, Benzoic Acid, Sodium Benzoate

Storage Instructions

To prevent oxidation, always remove the white ring when opening the tube. Use the cap to open the tube — do not use any sharp tools. After each use, ensure the tube is tightly sealed. Discard the first drop of the product before every application.

Product Color

The gel should come out clear when you first open the product, as this indicates it is fresh and ensures maximum effectiveness.

After application, a slight pinkish hue may develop within a few minutes — this is completely normal and shows that the product is processing (oxidizing).

If the gel comes out pinkish-yellow right away and does not run clear, it means the product has already oxidized. In this case, keep dispensing until the gel runs clear. If the discoloration continues, the product should be replaced.

Understanding the 3-Step System

STEP 1 — Permanent Gel
REDUCE → RESTRUCTURE
Reduces disulfide bonds and makes the hair flexible enough to reshape.

STEP 2 — Neutralizer Cream
OXIDIZE → STABILIZE
Stops the reducing process and helps reform disulfide bonds in the new configuration.

STEP 3 — Regenerating Cream
CONDITION → SUPPORT
Provides conditioning ingredients following the chemical restructuring process.
